OK. You probably already noticed that some boxers look to be identical twins, no matter which country they come from. I would love to have a face for each boxer, but I now have faces only for boxers that get into the world championship division. Why? Because I do not have any good random face generation program that I could find. And I do not have time to make these faces by hand. I could have you - the users upload faces for boxers when you get to win the title for example, but I am afraid a lot of boxers will have pictures of silly things. ;D With me trying to be all realistic and stuff and having a world champ looking like Ronaldo's latest date, well thats just plain silly. Any suggestions? Do you know where I can get a lot of realistic images of manly faces (without getting sued for using them). I know EA site has a face generator for their latest FIFA game, but it does not have a random button so one has to actually make each face by hand. www.ea.com/uk/football/fifa/game-faceIf you use that tool I can put those faces up to be used by boxers. Any other suggestions for doing this?

So, if any of you want to make faces for your boxers using that software I will put them in. Just email me first so that I can tell you what characteristics to use for your boxer as it is not currently displayed to you anywhere. (european, asian, african, other... other is for fighters of central, south american, middle eastern heritage south pacific) heritage . When the fight is live the icon of the boxers has a skin tone so I want the face picture to correspond to that somewhat.

maybe it is possible to use open source 3d rendering tools which grant the possibility to create random faces. after creating a bunch of faces it should be somehow possible (I hope) to apply the pictures at random to the generated boxers?
should then look like the older versions of fifa football manager.

i have looked at plenty of there. The ones that are nice with API that allow for aging were asking for thousands $$$. Even crappy ones were asking for money to create a random bunch of faces. So I came up empty.

I found a tool which is still in its beta. It is called "Makehuman" and it is open source. It does not have a random face creator, but with some fast clicks it should be possible to create one face in thirty seconds. The only thing missing till now is the haircuts. Maybe I will find something. Here you go with the URL: www.makehuman.org/

Other possibility:
Games as for example Fifa Manager 12 bring an editor with which it is possible to create numberless different appearances. Also does not work at random, and I do not know if that pictures are legally usable in your game. The few boxers who have a photo look like from Pro Evolution football games some years ago. So maybe the idea is not new to you.

No copyright can be asserted by the software owner in respect of any pictures created by utilising their software. So totally legal.

What needs to happen is I need an API to randomly generate faces. Or some other one click way to generate faces. Anything else is too time consuming to be useful.

if you want to help you can yourself create faces or just send me pictures for faces for your own boxers. Grossmeister does it - which is cool as these faces stay with boxers forever. www.box2glory.com/npc/365gym.htm

But handling it like this does not grant you a corporate style. I think it is really annoying if the faces are in different styles, one is using a face gen, other one uses a photo and so on.
I mean, this is clearly about personal taste, but I just wanted to mention it.
There are games which run with just one or two faces per "race" (f.e. european, south east european, asian, indian, afro american, african, south american, and so on) - Even if they often look the same it is better than having no picture, as each single detail gives additional information of the boxer. Example: I got an American fighter - he could be black or white, even Asian looking. If he has a face now, and he is black, it is maybe better for the player to identify with him - now he has blond coloured hair. It is just two features but they are making him somewhat special or lead the player to possible characteristics of the boxer.
I began to create faces, using the same procedures over and over, combining EA- GameFace (also used by Grossmeister) and Photoshop. And I was thinking to create a pool, where people, not just me, can create faces with the same procedure. Dependent on how much people would work on it from time to time the pool would grow, and maybe sometime Pav doesnt even have to buy a facegen later on.
I can later upload some of the pictures and write a tutorial on how I did that. The Photoshop- part may be done by gimp as well.
Cheers
